100 days of painting studio sale 2025

 —  100 D a y s o f p a i n t i n g —

The paintings in this collection were part of a commitment to paint for 100 days. Getting back into an (almost) daily painting practice brought a sense of surprise, joy, and play as I allowed myself to experiment with oil paint, trying different things while also maintaining a consistent visual language.

There were so many takeaways from the experience, but the fact that I showed up nearly daily for 100 days was incredible. There were only a couple of missed dates and late nights, but I would make up for them by painting two during the next day. I was so committed, I even brought my panels to NYC and Iowa—these paintings are in acrylic paint for obvious reasons—can you imagine me on the train with wet oil paintings? Actually, one probably could.

I realized that I don’t like setting up still life scenes and that painting from observation can be hard because, somehow, my eyes don’t seem to look in the same place twice. I love color and weird color combinations. Animals are silly, and painting them was (is) such a love letter to their sweetness. I learned to let go and was interested in capturing what I could with minimal brush strokes (a painting by Raul Duffy [French, 1877–1953] I saw at the doctor’s office really cemented this motivation). There’s also a subtle difference between the looseness and laziness, but ultimately, that comes down to intention (doesn’t it always, though?).

All said, this project became a different type of meditation than the abstract paintings, but these studies have helped inform how I see spaces within the abstract pieces.

The paintings are sourced from moments in daily life (some painted from observation/IRL and some not - I found the pets to be easier from a photograph), and on days when I felt less-than-inspired, I asked friends for photos or looked back through memories I wanted to capture. It is a diary of emotions and transitions—summer to fall, loss and love—the whole mess-of-a-thing which is really a beautiful gift.

I hope you will enjoy these vignettes of my life in yours. ♥
